The programming language Julia is now available for the Raspberry Pi and is now part of Raspbian.
The Julia programming language is a high-level, high performance programming language. Its often used for scientific research and data analysis and has extensive mathematical function libraries. Parallel and cloud computing are also an important feature of Julia.
This sounds all very specific and complicated. However, the idea with Julia is, that it can be a very efficient language like C++ but also easy to use like Python. This makes it attractive for general-purpose programming.
Especially with the processing power of today’s Raspberry Pi, it is possible to do a lot of number crunching with its quad-core CPU if you have the tool to efficiently use its capabilities.
Julia can be downloaded and installed in Raspbian using the following command:
sudo apt update sudo apt install julia
Alternatively, you can download the binaries from the julialang website.

The ‘docs’ section has a lot of info and ‘how to get started’ documentation. There is also an active community where you can always get help if you were to get stuck.
